Thomas Lord Taylor

Northcote Mayor (1906-1907)

Thomas Taylor was Mayor of Northcote in 1906-1907. This was when the Council decided that building fees were paid and plans submitted to the Town Engineer before building began. Until then, there had been no regulation and large families were crowded into small houses on small blocks. Mayor Taylor, however, thought it impracticable to set higher building standards, after all, "it was not a rich man's suburb, and the class of houses in Northcote were good enough for Northcote."
