Northcote Horticultural Society

The Northcote Horticultural Society was formed soon after the formation of the Horticultural Society of Victoria (later Royal Horticultural Society) in 1856. The Society had connections to the Rose Society of Victoria (1899) and other horticultural societies. The held annual meetings with prizes and Autumn and Spring shows at the Northcote Town Hall. Prizes at these events went to categories such as best rose in the show, best carnation, best decorated dinner table, best decorated flower bundles, baskets and vases, as well as many prizes for flower varieties. The Northcote town Hall was decorated with a themed floral display. All events included specialist lectures and amateur classes and concluded with flowers for sale.
