Darebin Deadly Reads
Check out Darebin Deadly Reads, our celebration of the excellent and important work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and illustrators.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people who are the traditional owners and custodians of this land. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and culture. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Disclaimer: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are advised that this web page may contain images, voices, text of deceased persons.
Darebin Deadly Reads are booklists that are curated by an Darebin Libraries in consultation with the Aboriginal Partnerships Officer. When choosing the books to add to these book lists, it was considered that a range of genders, ages and genres be represented and that all authors must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
The word ‘deadly’ is used by many Aboriginal people to mean awesome or great.
Darebin Deadly Reads celebrates and spotlights some of the excellent and important work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and illustrators, with a range of recommendations included from fiction, non-fiction to poems to picture books. In these lists, there is something for the whole community to enjoy.
We are proud to share our New Deadly Reads for Adults, New Deadly Reads for Kids & Youth, Deadly Reads for Adults, and Deadly Reads for Kids & Youth book lists and we hope to produce many more to come.
