Making a reservation

If the item you would like to borrow is on loan, or available at one of our other library branches, you can reserve it for free!

There are different ways to reserve an item:

When the item is returned, we will notify you by email or SMS text and it will be held for you at your chosen library.

Recommend an item for our collection

Have you read something good that you think we should have in our collection? After confirming we don’t already have it in our catalogue, you can make a purchase recommendation by completing our request form.

You can also request an item by speaking to a library staff member during a visit or calling 1300 655 355 during opening hours. Please provide the title, author and ISBN upon your request.

All recommendations are first assessed to ensure they meet our Collection Development Guidelines. If your request meets our guidelines, we will purchase the item and notify you through email or SMS text when it is available.

While we welcome requests for new magazine titles via the request form, additions to the library’s magazine collection are reviewed on an annual basis.

Items not in our library catalogue

If we don't have the item you want to borrow listed in our catalogue, you can fill out our request form. You will need to login using your Darebin Libraries membership number and PIN to create your request. Using our Collection Development Guidelines(PDF, 370KB) we will assess whether the item should be purchased or if it can be requested from another library via an interlibrary loan (ILL). Please ensure you have set up your email alerts in your membership account so that we can notify you through email or SMS text when the item is available.

An important note about interlibrary loans (ILL)

It may take 6 — 8 weeks for interlibrary loans to arrive. Limits apply for our customers using the interlibrary loans (ILL) service. The ILL limit for customers is 6 items per year.

Most of the time, Darebin Libraries offer this service without fees, however additional charges may apply for some interlibrary loans. You will be consulted if your interlibrary loan incurs a fee.
