How do I join the library?

It is free and easy to join Darebin Libraries. You can join in-person with the assistance of one of our library staff or online by filling out an online membership form. Before joining, please read our Conditions of Membership.  Learn more

When is the library open?

Three of our branches: Northcote, Preston and Reservoir libraries are open 7 days a week. Fairfield Library is open Monday-Saturday.

How do I get a PIN number?

You will need a PIN to access your membership record and to reserve and renew items online

You can get a PIN by calling 1300 655 355 or by speaking with one of our friendly library staff during your next visit.

Do the libraries provide wifi?

Yes, our library branches all provide free wifi access to our customers. You must be a Darebin Libraries member to access this service.

What if the library doesn't have a book that I am looking for?

If you are in need of a book that we do not have in our collection, there are several way you can recommend or request an item. Read more on our Reservations and requests page.

Why am I unable to renew an item?

If you are unable to renew an item it is likely because of one of the following reasons:

  • The item is on reserve for another customer.
  • You have already renewed the item twice.
  • The item is more than 27 days overdue.

If you are still having trouble renewing an item, please call 1300 655 355 or speak with one of our friendly library staff during your next visit.

What do I do if I lose my library card?

For your security, call 1300 655 355 or inform a library staff member as soon as possible about your lost library card.

You will need to visit the library with a suitable ID to arrange a replacement card.

Please note, a replacement fee of $3.10 applies.

How do I change my personal details?

If you wish to change any details on your library membership (i.e. email address, PIN number, etc.), you can do so by logging into your account onlilne. Log in with your membership number and PIN and click on Personal Details to make updates.

You can also call 1300 655 355 to change your details or speak with one of our friendly library staff during your next visit.

How do I find out about new items?

You can explore new releases and other topics of interest on our Recommendations page.

You can also set up email alerts about new items added to the library through your Darebin Libraries membership. Log in to your account through our Darebin digital library using your membership number and PIN, and select New Alert Profile. Read our step-by-step instructions. (Scroll to the bottom)

How do I renew and reserve items?

Can I donate items to the library?

We accept some books as donations - please read our Donation page for details before bringing your items to the library.

Does Darebin Libraries have an app?

Yes, we do have an app!

It's free to download and allows you to renew and reserve items. Browse the library catalogue, save a digital copy of your library card and explore our digital resources.
