Duke of Gloucester Royal visit 1934

In 1934, Prince Henry the Duke of Gloucester and third son of George V, visited Victoria on its Centenary Celebrations. He arrived on the H.M.S Sussex on Thursday, 18th of October. Railway companies offered reduced fares and put on extra train services for people travelling to Melbourne for the occasion. During his visit, he opened Parliament House, Mac. Robertson’s Girls School, the All-Australian Exhibition at the Exhibition Building, and the Royal Agricultural Show. He attended many sporting events, balls, garden parties and dinners. When he passed through Northcote, he passed a decorated stand set up near the cannons. His busy schedule ended on 19th November 1934.
