The longest serving of all Darebin’s publicans was Mary Cora Negri. In 1927 she took over the licence of the Rose, Shamrock, and Thistle Hotel on Plenty Road Reservoir. The hotel was one of the oldest in the area, having started in 1854. Negri was to hold the licence of the Rose, Shamrock and Thistle Hotel until 1971, a total of 44 years. After her death, her daughter Patricia Middleton became the new publican.
