Bushrangers

During the early 1850s Arthurton Road in Northcote had a reputation as being the haunt of bushrangers and escaped prisoners from Pentridge Prison in nearby Coburg. A temporary police station was established in James Street and no doubt did much to encourage the lawless element to move on.
