Samuel Leakey Bartlett

(1838-1929)

Arriving in Preston in 1875 with his wife Anna (1844-1927), Samuel Bartett purchased seven acres of land on the east side of Spring Street.

With experience as the Head Gardener at Government House, New Zealand, Bartlett established a florist and a market garden on his land.  It was to be a local landmark for many years before the land was sold and subdivided.
