William Henry Scott

(1881 - 1960)

William Scott was born in New Zealand on 11 April 1881, before moving to Victoria in 1890.

Enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force in November 1914 Scott was appointed Captain and landed with the 9th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli on 21 May 1915. Later during the war Scott was promoted to Major and was responsible for a successful battle against the Turks in Egypt in April 1916. This won him the Distinguished Service Order. During the course of the war Scott was to be wounded twice and mentioned in dispatches several times. After returning to Australia Scott became an engineer for the City of Preston, a position he was to hold until 1932. He later became the city engineer for the City of Bass.
