Northcote Girl Guides
On 18th June 1924, a meeting was held at the Northcote town hall to promote the girl guides movement. Miss Swinburn gave an address. The divisional commissioner, Lady Best was present. The Northcote Girl Guides was formed at this meeting.
The first annual meeting of the Northcote Girl Guides Association was held in August 1925. After one year, a troop had been formed and two were in the process of being formed. The association finished its first year with a credit of £5 11/3
Mrs. P. J. Slater, former mayoress and District Commissioner, welcomed the Grand Commissioner (Miss Hamilton), and district commissioners from Port Melbourne (Mrs. Keating), St Kilda (Mrs. Woolcott), Camberwell and district (Mrs. Steele), and Kerang (Mrs. Rundle).
The Office bearers were elected;
- Vice President – Mrs Plant
- Treasurer – Miss Pitt
- Secretary – Mrs. McDonald
On the committee were Mesdames A. H. Oldis, J. A. Thomson, R. Thompson, J. J. Ryan, E. Williams, Holtham, Cole, E. Preston, W. Glanfield, Raverty and the Misses Rayment.
