Tarbert

27 Herbert Street, Northcote

The double storey Victorian terrace residence on Northcote Hill was known as "Tarbert". It was known as "Dirty Daffs" in the 1930s, when it was either a brothel or a sly grog shop, or both. It apparently has its own ghost, a middle-aged woman from an unknown period who has a happy disposition and loves the house, so won't leave.
