Corporal James Hugh Ross

James Hugh Ross was a Scotsman who arrived in Australia, aged 20. His family lived in McLachlan Street, Northcote. Ross enlisted in July 1915 and his unit - 29th Battalion, D Company - embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on November 10, 1915, and disembarked at Suez on December 7, 1915. He served in Egypt and the Western Front. He was killed in action on July 19, 1916, aged 23 and is buried at Fromelles, France.
