Marjorie Oke
Rooming House for Women - 43 Station Street, Fairfield
This Ministry of Housing rooming house at 43 Station Street, Fairfield – established in January 1990 - was named after Marjorie Oke (1911 - 2003), a prominent Women's Rights' activist who moved to Northcote in 1979 with her husband, Bryan, after retirement. Marjorie took up the cause of older women in the area, adopting and teaching a holistic approach to health which encompassed aqua aerobics, therapeutic massage and correct diet, before it became fashionable.
