Malcolm Gray

Malcolm Gray was born in Preston in May 1940, the son of Alex (Alec) Gray, a prominent city real estate agent and highly successful sportsman. Alex Gray was captain-coach of a premiership winning Northcote VFA side, as well as being a professional runner. He also served as president of the Northcote Cricket Club.

Malcolm attended Melbourne University where he played cricket, but never higher than the fourth XI, although he did captain the side. He also ventured into his father’s real estate business. Amongst other successful professional accomplishments, Gray has served as deputy chairman of the Bank of Melbourne and president of the Real Estate Institute of Australia. Despite this impressive list of achievements Gray is most well known as a cricket administrator, having risen to the very top of world cricket, serving as President of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Gray was also chairman of the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) from 1986-1989 having been appointed to the ACB board as a delegate from the Victorian Cricket Association (VCA) with which he had a long involvement.
