George Hatfield
1893- 1953
George Hatfield was a local businessman and strong promoter of youth movements in Preston. Born in Richmond in 1895, Hatfield served in the A.I.F. during the First World War before establishing a small knitting factory in Croxton. This later relocated to Plenty Road, Preston as the business expanded. Hatfield was a Councillor from 1947 to 1953. He was also a Justice of the Peace. He partnered with Cr. Gayther to establish the Youth centre in Broadway, Reservoir. Hatfield died in 1953, aged only 60.
