Robert Coleman
Preston Mayor (1946-1947 & 1951- 1952)
Robert Coleman (1898-1974) was 13 when he settled in Preston in 1911. He had an active interest in the local community and in 1938 was elected as one of three Councillors for the new North Ward. Coleman was to serve on the Preston Council until 1953, including stints as Mayor in 1946-7, and 1951-2. Coleman Crescent in the North Ward has subsequently named after him. Coleman was interested in education and this led to his involvement in the West Preston State School Committee and the Preston Technical College. He also served on the Board of Management for PANCH, and the Federation of Co-Operative Housing Societies of Victoria. Coleman died in 1974.
