William Wallis
(1820-1891)
William Wallis was a long time Northcote resident. He moved into the suburb in 1856 and remaining there for the next thirty odd years. Working as a timber merchant, carpenter and contractor, Wallis was responsible for building 100 houses across the northern suburbs and ten 2-storey shops in High Street. Wallis was a Northcote Councillor between 1883 and 1886. He was an uncle of Alfred Tharratt, who was Mayor of Northcote three times - 1907/08, 1908/09 and 1914/15.
