H. R. Crapper

H. R. Crapper was a local business man, active in Fairfield from the 1930s to the 1980s. As early as October 1933 he was advertising the sale of a horse from 120 Station Street Fairfield for the grand sum of six pounds.

By 1936 he had established a wood yard at 123 Station Street. Business must have been good as by 1941 he was operating a wood yard from 200 Station Street as well. Two years later he moved from 123 Station Street and soon established a second wood yard from 216 Station Street.

In 1944 the Victorian Government Gazette listed Crapper as fuel merchant, 200 Station and 216 Station Street Fairfield. He later established an ice manufacturing plant at 209 Station Street and would deliver the ice both locally and to neighbouring suburbs.

 During the early 1950s Crapper served as a Councillor for the South Ward in the Heidelberg Council. At that time Fairfield was part of the Heidelberg Council.
