John P. Howe

(1854 - 1917)

John P. Howe established, in partnership with Sir Herbert Onley, the Howe & Co. Tannery in High Street, Preston. 

Howe, a New South Welshman, was an experienced politician, having served as Mayor of Waterloo and in the N.S.W. Legislative Assembly as the representative for Redfern. Once established in Preston he stood for the Preston Council and was elected in 1907.

He served as a councillor until 1917, including one term as the Shire President in 1909-10.
