John William Bartrop

Preston Mayor 1923-24

John William Thomas Bartrop was Mayor of Preston for one year in 1923. He was born in 1882 near Numurkah in the Goulburn Valley but in 1915 he moved to Preston and established a Grocery business, first at 313 High Street then later on at 329 Bell Street. He was actively involved in sporting clubs and was president of the Baseball club as well as acting as Conductor of the Preston Citizen's Band. Within Council he acted as Chairman of the Hall Commmittee and the Electric Light Committee before becoming Mayor. Mr Bartrop died in 1940, aged 57 years.
