Carelli - the Vizzinese Tailors of Northcote

Gioacchino and Domenico Carelli came out to Australia from Vizzini in Sicily in 1952. They were tailors and soon a shop was established on the corner of Darebin Road and High Street in Thornbury. The shop specialised in formal wear for weddings for ladies and men and grew into a successful family business. Gioacchino was known around town as "the Vizzinese tailor of Northcote".

Gioacchino was born in 1909 to Domenico and Carmela Agosta and died aged 70 in 1979. He was still living at 26 Darebin Road at the time of his passing. Domenico lived close by at number 33.
