Known as Pipe Track because of water pipes beneath centre. Hence trams cannot go down the centre. From 1850s until other reservoirs constructed over 90% of Melbourne's water came from the Yan Yean reservoir via these pipes. 

Previous names in Preston included Frank, John & Woodland Sts.

North of Hutton St. Previous name Yan Yean Pde. Changed 1912.
