Shier Street, Alphington
Shier Street Alphington first appears in the street directories in 1925. It was named after Wally Shiers, who with Ross and Keith Smith and Jim Bennett became the first men to fly from England to Australia. They arrived in Australia on 10th December 1919, the flight having taken 27 days. The first residents in the street were George Emmett, Daniel Finlay and Leonard Wigraft.
