Wales Street
The Wales Street shopping strip is typical of the small suburban strips that popped up all over Darebin during the 1920s and 30s. Up until the end of the First World War most homes were built on or close to High Street and therefore utilized the shops along that road. As the houses began to settle further out the need for more localized shopping became apparent, especially as car ownership was rare and public transport limited.
